My name is Sabrina, though, in 2014(ish), my badass name was Tsunami, when I was regularly working out at a 9Round kickboxing gym. Back then, I had it halfway figured out. I knew “badass” was a feeling I was chasing, but I also thought I was still chasing an aesthetic. I’ll be honest, I still find myself trapped in mindset sometimes. What I realize now is that “badass” is not a look. It’s the combination of your thinking, feeling, and being.

You’ll soon learn that I’m a storyteller. I love telling a good story. I also learned what to do (and, more importantly, what not to do) by watching and learning from others. So now, I’m here to share my story and what I’ve learned. I’m here to coach others to empower their inner badass through their thoughts, feelings, and actions.

I’m a dog mom to a 7-year-old black lab named Bella. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest in the United States, and I’ve pretty much always been a homebody, staying close to my two sisters, three nieces, my parents, and extended family. I studied magazine journalism at the University of Oregon, where I earned my degree in 2010.

Put off by the role of advertising in how news was delivered and portrayed, I dabbled in publishing. I studied publishing at New York University in the Summer Publishing Institute. I got my first job in publishing in the San Francisco Bay area. Homesick (and physically sick – that’s a story for another day), I returned home to Oregon.

From there, I went from career services, to marketing communications, to corporate wellness. I love creating content and I love wellness – that’s why I’ve started this business! In 2015, I earned my personal trainer certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and later earned my health coach certification, also from ACE.

In March of 2015, I created a blog, titled: Badass Is the New Skinny. What I didn’t realize at the time was that this tongue-in-cheek statement would become a common theme in my life.

I started Badass Is the New Skinny to document my fitness journey. While I’m a writer at heart, I cherish more personalized communication and convenience, which is why I’ve decided to transition it to my podcast. On my podcast, I’ll share more about my background and who I am, what I’ve tried, where I’ve failed, what I’ve learned, and how an imperfect journey is perfect when you’re being true to yourself and empowering your inner badass.

I go into this in much more detail in my first podcast episode, so I’ll spare you here.

For a lot of reasons I’ll go into on another day, I let my PT and health coach certifications lapse. It wasn’t long after that I realized what a mistake that was, and I repeated both processes again to re-establish myself as an ACE-certified personal trainer and health coach with specialized study in behavior change – certifications that remain current to this day. I’m passionate about continuous improvement and professional development, and will soon be adding certified sleep, stress management, and recovery coach (through Precision Nutrition) to my credentials.

I’m excited to get to know you and your story! Ditch your preconceived notions about what it means to be a badass, put on your sassy pants and get comfy. Let’s have some fun!
