018 | Should You Really Be Setting Goals?

Think about the last time you thought to yourself, I need to start eating better, or I need to work out more, or I should really lose some weight. Did the thought go much further than that? Or was it a fleeting thought that you had before eating a cookie while settled in on the couch for a Netflix marathon?

No judgies. I say it that way because I’ve been there. On many occasions, I’ve been there.

The problem with these fleeting thoughts is that there’s a part of us that really knows and understands that there are healthier choices we could make to help us feel better and/or look better. And yet… these thoughts often come and go without a plan. Or, the thoughts hang around and you make some half-assed efforts, but you don’t really think it through and after a couple-few days you discover it’s unsustainable – whatever “it” may be – and you revert back to the habits and behaviors you had before.

It’s a challenge. I totally get it. That’s why in this episode I talk to you about when, why, and how to set goals, specifically walking you through the SMART goal-setting process and discussing some of the problems that people get hung up on when creating their goals.

Additionally, I talk about instances when a SMART goal might not make sense for you, or when you don’t need to be setting goals at all. Ultimately, my goal for my audience, clients, friends, family, and everyone is to get to a point where they’re so solid in their healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors that they no longer need to worry about setting goals. At least, not for health and wellness.
