015 | Addressing My Shitty Habits

Something really important to keep in mind as you take steps to live a healthier, badass life is that even the health, wellness, and fitness professionals have bad habits or don’t always do the things they “should” do. In this episode, I’m airing my dirty laundry and discussing the bad habits that I’m working on, giving you an inside look into my approach for healthy, sustainable changes.

My Shitty Habits

In this episode, I talk about the following bad habits that I’m working on – or plan to work on:

  1. Eliminating (or vastly reducing) how much soda I drink.
    • Identify easy and convenient – water-based – alternatives.
    • Avoid soda by not keeping it in the house and only ordering soda during social outings.
    • Focus on a different goal that will counter this habit: Drink more water!
  2. Eliminating (or vastly reducing) how often I order from GrubHub or buy nutrient-deficient microwavable foods (particularly microwave burritos… don’t judge me). 
    • Start ordering groceries to be delivered (avoid impulse buys). If that’s not an option…
    • Write out a shopping list and stick to it! If that’s not enough, eat before going grocery shopping so you’re not tempted by your hunger. Or, drink a big glass of water… you’ll move faster and stay a bit more focused if you need to pee. But be sure you have your list handy so you don’t forget anything!
    • Delete the GrubHub app and make sure I have quick and easy meal-prepped food ready to go.
  3. Quit hitting the friggin’ snooze button non-stop for an hour before finally getting up.
    • Put my alarm across the room and set it for the latest time possible to get up and still be on time.
    • Go to bed earlier and fine-tune my evening routine for a better night’s sleep.
    • Try a sunrise alarm clock (without the obnoxious noise – just the light).

Spoiler alert: This last one is on my list of habits I know I need to address. BUT! I haven’t actually started tackling this one yet. It’s on my radar, and I share some thoughts about what I plan to do to work on this. But for now, the first two are my top priorities because I think they are going to be most beneficial to change in my life.
