045 | Be Badass: The Problem with 1,200 Calorie Diets

It’s finally time to talk about the problem with 1,200 calorie diets.

This diet is super simple: Don’t eat more than 1,200 calories a day. That’s it. And this is one of those examples where simple is not always best.

I do try to encourage my listeners to keep their health and wellness habits simple. The problem here is that 1,200 calorie-a-day diets are essentially starvation diets and should only be done if advised by your doctor and under the care of a medical team. From a long-term, sustainable, healthy eating pattern, it’s fucked up. This diet is a quick way to screw with your metabolism and, more importantly (in my opinion), your mindset and relationship with food.

In this episode, I dive more into the 1,200 calorie a diet, sharing more information about where it originated and what it looks like today. Believe it or not, this diet – which is more than 100 years old at this point – is still commonplace in today’s society.

Frankly, that’s a disgusting concept. And it’s just as fucked up now as it was back in the day.

I also go a step further in this conversation to talk about other diet traps that are saturating the health and wellness world, so that you know what to keep an eye out for.
